Buy a domain – in the chat, without an account

A Mainnet domain costs €4.99 per year, the same for every ending, paid only in Bitcoin. You buy it in the chat – no account, no name, no cookies. You create your key yourself; we only see the public part.

Ways to the chat

How a purchase works

  1. Create your key on your own computer. It stays with you; you get a short request code. $ mainnet init shop.de
  2. Send the domain you want and the request code in the chat. The chat shows you a return code of 12 words – write it down to continue later.
  3. The registry checks name, trademark and payment – not content.
  4. You get a Bitcoin invoice with its own address and an identifying amount.
  5. After the payment arrives, the registry activates the domain by hand, usually within 24–48 hours.
  6. The confirmation appears in the chat. Then you publish your site yourself. $ mainnet host shop.site --key deploy@shop.de.mnkey

The identifying amount

Every invoice has its own Bitcoin address and a unique amount, the identifying amount. Address and exact amount let us match the payment to your order – no name, no account.

The identifying amount is the BTC equivalent of €4.99, rounded down slightly (to 100 satoshi, at a low exchange rate to 1,000) and reduced by a small unique deduction – so you never pay more than the invoice, at most just under 5% less.

Pay exactly the amount shown, ideally from your own wallet. Bitcoin payments are public.

Points and term

PaidPointsTerm

Renewing

In your domain's info window in the Mainnet Browser (signed with your key file), on the command line or in the chat:

$ mainnet renew shop.de

New points are added to the current term – topping up early costs nothing.

Reminders before expiry

Reminders arrive by mail in your domain's mailbox (postmaster@<domain>); your own node shows them as well:

  1. ⎿ 5 weeks before
  2. ⎿ 3 weeks before
  3. ⎿ 1 week before

Reminders never contain a payment link – a mail with a payment link is not from us.

Renewing in time remains your own responsibility.
